Durango’s Curbside Compost Service

Your food scraps can save the planet.

About 40% of what goes to our landfills is food and other organic matter. We pick it up at your curb, turn it into living soil, and give it back to the farms and gardens of the Four Corners.

40% of our landfill is food & organics. Let’s put it to work instead.
Why It Matters

Let’s put an end to food waste.

Food rotting in a landfill releases methane — a greenhouse gas over 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in its first 20 years. Composted instead, those same scraps become carbon-storing living soil. Same banana peel, opposite future.

80×

more heat trapped by methane than CO₂ over its first 20 years in the atmosphere.

40%

of what the La Plata County region sends to landfill is food and organic matter.

the year Durango neighbors started turning their scraps into soil with T2F.

Ridiculously Simple

Three steps to zero food waste

1

Choose a plan below. Your clean five-gallon bucket — sawdust included — lands on your doorstep within 7–14 days.

2

Fill Up

All food scraps welcome: peels, bones, coffee grounds, leftovers. Just no plastic, metal, animal waste or rubber.

3

Place Out

Set your bucket at the curb by 8am on your recycling day. We swap it for a clean one and haul your scraps to the farm.

Our Impact, Live

Every bucket counts. Literally.

Climate TRACE · Live Data

Real-time tracking of the pounds of food scraps diverted and CO₂ emissions avoided by this community is on its way to this very spot.

“This is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced. This is not something you can like on Facebook.”

The Loop

Your trash is the earth’s treasure.

Every bucket we collect is composted locally into a living soil amendment full of the microorganisms that cycle nutrients, hold water and pull carbon out of the atmosphere. That soil goes back to the farms and gardens growing your food — completing a loop our community can be proud of.

It’s a win for our farmers, a win for our climate, and a win for every garden in the Four Corners.
